Over 30 years of consistent yoga practice. Registered Yoga Teacher by the Yoga Alliance in 2002.
Yoga Profile
- 1970-1978: Graduated with a BS degree in Chemistry and Education. Taught high school biology and chemistry in NY. Attended my first Yoga class at the local YWCA in White Plains, NY. Continued to practice and study Yoga with the guidance of books by Richard Hittleman (Richard Hittleman's Yoga: 28 Day Exercise Plan-1972) and Jess Stearn (Yoga Youth and Reincarnation -1965).
- 1978-1980: Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa. Built a strong home practice and began teaching some of the poses to other volunteers. Learned here that the western approach to teaching science did not always work in another culture; that there were many different and valid ways to view life.
- 1980-1987: Earned an MS in Environmental Health Sciences followed by a Ph.D. in the Nutritional Sciences. The idea was to integrate expertise in Chemistry with the more practical approaches of the environmental sciences and nutritional sciences. Yoga practice was becoming stronger as I was practicing almost daily in a home practice.
- 1990's: Yoga begins to come of age; many classes emerge. I now begin to attend formal classes.
- 2000-present: Study for Yoga Teaching Certification at Kripalu. Begin to teach classes for State Employees and started a small consulting business in Nutritional Counseling and Yoga. Move toward integrating yoga philosophy with scientific background.
